At witch-crafts I take great joy and delight in handcrafting a range of magickal wands and faerie doors that are inspired by a love and growing understanding of the faerie realm.  My family and I live in the Lincolnshire Wolds and we dedicate ourselves to living in harmony with nature and all faerie beings and through the gifts that I make hope others will also welcome the faeries into their lives.

As a child I always felt the presence of the mysterious fey and though extremely elusive, knew in my heart that they inhabited a world close by to our own and despite childhood disappearing I never lost that awareness, but only gained inspiration and peace when most needed, which is the confirmation I needed of their existence.  The fey are intrinsically connected to Mother Earth and I believe that the portals to faerie world are all around us in nature; every tree, plant and flower, every rock, every stream, brook and waterfall, the wind and the rain.  By tuning in to the elements and to Mother Nature herself I find peace and feel enlightened which can help me visualise and find inspiration for my woodcraft.

I believe every tree is sacred and I have learnt that each tree holds within it magickal properties, great wisdom, mysticism and life itself.  In many Pagan beliefs the tree was considered truly magical, it’s roots extended beneath the earth and beneath the earth was a realm of great mystery - the Underworld.  Through my faerie journey I have learnt without a doubt that trees are sacred to the Faerie realm and so it is to these magickal places that I am called to and it is with care and consideration as to how I select the wood for my craft.   I do not like to cut branches from a living tree, but only take what is naturally fallen –  I like to think of it as a 'faerie gift'.  I believe a little piece of this faerie energy is held within everything I create and quite often find the fey spirit within the tree tells me how it wants the wood to be formed and used.  Sometimes I feel it may be a wand through which the spirit of trees can be invoked in our rites and for us to connect with them harmoniously.  Other times I feel the wood is to be used as healing amulets or protective charms.

I use knowledge from Celtic tree lore and my own experiences to understand and use the magickal properties of trees.  Some special trees are the Hawthorn, Ash and Oak where if all three trees grow together, one may see faeries. Solitary Hawthorn trees growing on hills or near sacred wells act as 'markers' to the Faery realm.  Willow, another beautiful tree that has associations with the faerie realm and has many magickal uses such as healing, protection, peace and love. Ash is excellent for healing as the guardian spirits are said to reside in the Ash.  Alder is known as the "fairy's tree" in Celtic lore, so is good for faerie magic. The faeries are said to like to dance under the trees when they are flowering.  Alder twigs or flowers act as a charm for communicating with the fey.   . Elder is also very magickal; standing under an elder tree at Midsummer, like standing in a Fairy Ring of mushrooms, will help you see the faerie folk. However, to me all trees are special.  I will sense the calling of a tree……I touch it and feel its enchantment for which I give thanks to it.

I adore making faerie doors and houses (using recycled material and sometimes driftwood or bark) which show the fey that you welcome them to you home or garden and they can be a good place to leave your offerings.  Sometimes I add a faerie or two (made from clay).  As of yet they haven’t objected, thankfully they do seem to have a good sense of humour!

It is truly an honour to work harmoniously with nature and the fey while passing a little magick to like-minded people along the way……….
